Why Private Pay
I built Empower Kids OT outside the insurance system on purpose. Insurance often means long waitlists, rushed sessions, and strict limits on what therapy can address. You and your child deserve better than that.
Private pay means:
• No waitlist, we start when you’re ready
• Longer sessions focused on your child’s real life
• Freedom to work on what matters most to your family
• You and your child, not an insurance company, decide when therapy is done
What You’re Getting
When you work with Empower Kids OT, here’s what each week includes:
• A 75-minute highly personalized occupational therapy evaluation (if needed)
• A 60-minute in-home session with Dr. Megan Matthews (OTD, OTR/L) in your home, where real life happens
• A session format that dedicates focused time to your child, hands on coaching for you, and time set aside for your questions and your own support as a parent
• Text access to Dr. Matthews between sessions for quick questions, and to celebrate wins
• Individualized strategies after every session that fit your real routines
• A parent who feels supported, educated, and equipped to support their child's growth every single day...not just during the therapy hour

What does $150 actually get you?
$150 can feel like a lot at first glance, especially compared to a clinic co-pay. Here's what it's actually covering, side by side with what a traditional clinic session looks like.
| Traditional Clinic Session | Empower Kids OT Session |
|---|---|
| 30 minutes of therapy in a clinic gym, often back to back with other kids. | 60 minutes of in-home therapy built around your child's real environment and routines. |
| Parent usually waits in the lobby; brief handoff at the end. | Dedicated time with you every session, including hands on coaching and parent support. |
| No contact between sessions unless you call the front desk. | Text access between sessions for quick questions or wins worth celebrating. |
| Goals dictated by insurance coverage and clinic protocol. | Goals built around what actually matters to your family. |
| Waitlist of months before you even start. | Start as soon as you're ready. |
Insurance, Superbills, and Payment
Empower Kids OT is an out-of-network provider. I do not bill insurance directly, but many families are able to recover part of their costs through their out-of-network benefits. Here's what to know.
What I provide
A superbill (a detailed receipt with the codes your insurance needs) after every evaluation and treatment session. You submit it to your insurance company.
How to find out what your plan will cover
Call the member services number on the back of your card and ask: "What are my out-of-network benefits for pediatric occupational therapy? What is my deductible, what is my co-insurance rate, and how do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?" I'm happy to walk through this with you during our free consultation.
Payment options
Credit card, debit card, HSA, and FSA all accepted. Payment is collected at the time of booking.
Frequently Asked Questions
A: I chose to practice outside insurance systems so I can provide the quality of care your child deserves. This allows longer sessions, flexible scheduling, and the freedom to address whatever your child needs most, not just what an insurance company approves. I do provide superbills so you can seek reimbursement from your plan.
A: I understand that therapy is an investment. A few options: many families use their HSA/FSA, and most recover a portion through out-of-network benefits. We can also discuss a biweekly schedule or coaching-focused sessions if that better fits your budget. The most important thing is that we find a plan that works for you.
A: Every child is different, but most families I work with see meaningful progress within 8–12 consistent sessions. After the evaluation, I’ll give you a realistic timeline and we’ll reassess together as we go. The goal is always to equip you to support your child independently, so that therapy is temporary, but the skills you and your child learn will last past when therapy ends.
A: Progress looks different for every family, and we’ll talk about what realistic goals look like during the evaluation. I measure progress at regular intervals, and I’ll always be transparent with you about what I’m seeing. If something isn’t working, we adjust.
A: I work with children ages 2 to 18 and their families. I especially love the early years, when small shifts create big change, but I also work with older kids and teens who need targeted, respectful support.
You do not need a referral to book a free consultation. If we decide that my services are a good match for your child, then I will reach out to your child's pediatrician or other referring provider to acquire a referral. I will be happy to coordinate with them on your child's care.
