Meet Megan Matthews, OTD, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist, Advocate, and Partner in Your Child's Journey

Megan Matthews is a doctoral-level occupational therapist passionate about helping children and families thrive through compassionate, personalized care. Throughout her career, she has provided occupational therapy services to children across a wide range of ages, abilities, and settings, including preschool, public school, and home-based environments.

Megan's greatest passion is working with neurodivergent children and their families. She especially enjoys helping children develop greater independence in executive functioning skills, sensory regulation, and the everyday activities that help them participate fully in their homes, schools, and communities.

Megan earned her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Biology with a minor in Neuroscience from the University at Albany, providing a strong foundation in child development, brain function, and evidence-based care.

What Megan loves most about in-home occupational therapy is the opportunity to truly understand each family's unique routines, strengths, and challenges. She has been welcomed into all sorts of homes—from big to small, messy to tidy, busy to calm—and feels deeply grateful to be invited into each family's life. Megan believes meaningful progress happens when therapy is built around real-life experiences, not just what happens during a session.

Beyond Occupational Therapy

Megan is a Syracuse-area native, a lover of animals, and a believer in the power of nature and mindful practices to help balance the stresses of modern life.

When she's not working with children and families, Megan can often be found helping at her sister's greenhouse store, camping, skiing, reading, or spending quality time with her husband and rescue dog, Stella. Stella is a pit bull mix with a playful personality and a special talent for chasing hose water whenever she gets the chance.

Whether she's helping a child build new skills, supporting a family through daily challenges, or celebrating a hard-earned success, Megan's goal is always the same: to empower children and support families every step of the way.

Why Empower Kids OT Is Different

Therapy that fits your family, not the other way around.

Most pediatric occupational therapy practices operate on a clinic-based, insurance-driven model. That often means long waitlists, rotating therapists, and parents left wondering what happened during the session.

Empower Kids OT was built to do things differently.

I come to your home because that's where your child's challenges actually show up—at the breakfast table, during transitions between activities, in the bathroom, while interacting with sibling(s), or on everyday outings like trips to the grocery store. By seeing your child in their natural environment, I can help create strategies that work where they matter most.

During each session, I work directly with your child while coaching you on what I'm doing and why. You'll gain practical tools, hands-on support, and the confidence to carry those strategies into everyday life between sessions.

As a private-pay practice, there are no insurance hoops to jump through and no month-long waitlists. When you're ready to get started, we can often begin within a week. Every family on my caseload receives direct access to me and a therapist who genuinely cares about your child, your goals, and your family values.
